Adjusting and Transferring Inventory

How to change the quantity on hand, and how to move stock between locations.

Changing quantity

Use Change Quantity to manually add or remove stock — for a delivery that didn't come through a Purchase Order, a correction after a physical count, or any other adjustment outside the normal request/consumption flow. Every change is logged, so there's a record of what was adjusted and when.

Transferring between locations

Transfer Inventory Quantity moves stock of the same item from one location to another — for example, moving spare filters from one building's storage room to another's. A transfer affects two inventory records at once: the quantity decreases at the source and increases at the destination, each keeping its own cost tracking.

What else changes quantity automatically

Quantity also changes automatically, without a manual adjustment, when:

  • A Purchase Order for the item is received, which adds to Current Quantity.
  • The item is used to resolve a Work Request or Work Task, which removes from Current Quantity.

See Using Inventory on Requests for how that works.
