Utility Tracking
Utility Analysis
How to view utility cost and consumption trends across your buildings.
Once bills are recorded, FMX can break down cost and consumption several ways to help you spot trends and outliers.
Ways to slice the data
You can view utility data by:
- Utility type — electric, gas, water, and so on.
- Provider or account.
- Meter or building.
- Bill cycle or date.
Normalized metrics
Raw consumption numbers are hard to compare across buildings of different sizes, so FMX also offers normalized views:
- Cost per square foot — spend relative to a building's size, making cross-building comparisons meaningful.
- Energy use intensity — electric and gas consumption converted to a common energy unit, so you can compare buildings even if their bills use different measurement units.
- Water use intensity — the same idea applied to water and sewer usage.
A worked example
Say two of your buildings both pay similar total electric bills each month, but Building A is twice the size of Building B. Looking at cost per square foot shows Building B is actually running much less efficiently per square foot than Building A — a difference the raw total-cost numbers alone would have hidden.
