Utility Tracking

Utility Tracking

Overview of Utility Tracking — recording utility bills and consumption across your buildings.

Utility Tracking is a separately licensed FMX product for recording utility bills — electric, natural gas, water, sewer, stormwater, or a custom utility type your organization defines — and understanding what you're spending and using.

How bills are organized

Bills are recorded against Utility Accounts, which belong to Utility Providers. See Utility Bills and Accounts for how billing periods, charges, and review status work.

Attributing usage to buildings

A bill's consumption and cost can be broken down by meter or by building, so multi-building or multi-service bills get allocated to the right place. See Meters and Allocation.

Understanding your usage

Once bills are recorded, FMX can show cost and consumption broken down several ways — by building, provider, meter, or utility type — including normalized metrics like cost per square foot. See Utility Analysis.

This is separate from Financial Planning

Utility bills are tracked as their own cost records — they don't currently flow into Financial Planning Budget Categories the way Work Request or Purchase Order costs do. If you need utility spend reflected in a budget, treat that as a separate tracking need for now.

Whether your organization uses this

Utility Tracking is a standalone licensed product. If you don't see it in your navigation, your organization hasn't licensed it.
