Utility Tracking
Meters and Allocation
How utility consumption gets attributed to the right building or meter.
When a bill covers more than one building, or you want visibility down to individual meters, FMX allocates the bill's consumption and cost accordingly.
Meters
A utility meter can be associated with a specific location — its own service area within a building. If your account tracks reads at the meter level, a bill can record consumption and demand per meter rather than just as one total for the whole account.
Allocation
When a bill needs to be split across more than one building, FMX allocates it one of two ways:
- Meter-by-meter — if meters are assigned to specific buildings, usage is attributed based on each meter's actual reading.
- By service area — if meter-level detail isn't available, usage is split proportionally, such as by square footage.
This means two buildings sharing a single utility account can still each see their own share of a consolidated bill, without needing separate accounts for every location.
