Capital Projects
The capital-specific fields on top of the standard Work Request workflow.
A Capital Project is a Work Request set up for long-term capital work — a roof replacement, an HVAC overhaul, a multi-year renovation. It moves through the same Work Request statuses as any other request; this page covers only what's specific to capital planning.
Planning fields
- Planned Project Start Date and Planned Project End Date — the timeline you're budgeting against, independent of when the request is actually approved or assigned.
- Total Estimated Cost — a rollup of the direct costs on the project plus the costs of any sub-requests under it.
- Budget Category — ties the project to your organization's budget structure for reporting.
Cost rollups by fiscal year
FMX spreads a project's estimated costs across the fiscal years its planned start and end dates span, so a multi-year project shows how much of its cost lands in each fiscal year rather than as a single lump sum. If your organization tracks inflation, you can view these costs with or without inflation adjustment applied.
Where this fits with equipment
A Capital Project isn't automatically created for equipment nearing replacement — it's something you create yourself once you decide to act on it, often using the Asset Replacements view to identify what needs one.
